About Thymosin Alpha-1

What it is

Thymosin Alpha-1 is a defined twenty-eight-amino-acid peptide originally isolated from thymus tissue, and unlike Thymalin it is a single characterised sequence. It is licensed in a number of countries, sold as Zadaxin, generally as an adjunct in hepatitis B and in some immune contexts. That licensed product is not what is supplied here.

How it is understood to work

Research has centred on Toll-like receptor signalling, particularly TLR9 and TLR2 on dendritic cells, and on the maturation and activity of T cells. It behaves as an immune modulator rather than a straightforward stimulant, with the direction of its effect depending on the state of the system it acts on.

What research has looked at

Dendritic cell and T cell culture, antiviral immune response models, vaccine adjuvant research, and sepsis models. One of the better-evidenced peptides in this catalogue, with genuine international clinical literature behind it.

Handling and storage

Lyophilised, reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate. Standard peptide handling: gentle reconstitution, no shaking, no repeated freeze-thaw.

Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. Nothing above describes a dose, a protocol, or a use in humans or animals, and none of these compounds is a licensed medicine in the UK.

Research Information

Thymosin Alpha-1 is a synthetic 28-amino-acid peptide identical to the naturally occurring thymosin α-1 produced in the thymus, studied for its role in immune research. Researchers are interested in how it interacts with Toll-like receptors and modulates T-cell and dendritic cell function — making it a tool for studying immune cell maturation and response. Most published work has used immune cell line models to examine cytokine signalling and antigen presentation pathways.

Research areas

  • T-cell maturation and function studies
  • Dendritic cell activation research
  • Toll-like receptor (TLR) signalling studies
  • Cytokine and immune cell line research

Analytical methods

Identity and purity are typically confirmed at source by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry.

Storage and handling

Store lyophilised at -20°C, away from moisture and direct light. Once reconstituted, store at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe specified on the source datasheet.

For Research Use Only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Batch tested

Every batch is tested for identity and purity, and we publish the certificate.
