About Sermorelin
What it is
Sermorelin is GHRH(1-29) — the first twenty-nine amino acids of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, which is the shortest fragment retaining full biological activity of the parent hormone. It was formerly marketed as a medicine under the name Geref, since discontinued.
How it is understood to work
It binds the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotrophs. Because it acts on the pituitary rather than supplying growth hormone directly, release remains subject to the body's own regulation, including negative feedback through somatostatin. That preserved feedback is a large part of why the fragment is used as a research tool.
What research has looked at
Pituitary function testing, endocrine research on the GH axis, and comparative work against modified analogues such as CJC-1295, which were developed specifically to overcome its very short half-life.
