About Kisspeptin-10

What it is

Kisspeptin-10 is the ten-amino-acid active fragment of kisspeptin, the product of the KISS1 gene. The gene was originally identified as a metastasis suppressor, and its name comes from Hershey, Pennsylvania, home of the chocolate — an unusually frivolous origin for a molecule that turned out to be central to reproductive biology.

How it is understood to work

It binds KISS1R, formerly known as GPR54, on hypothalamic neurons, and sits upstream of gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Its importance became clear when loss-of-function mutations in the receptor were found to cause failure of puberty, establishing kisspeptin signalling as a gatekeeper of the reproductive axis. It is a control signal several steps above the hormones it ultimately influences.

What research has looked at

Hypothalamic neuron models, reproductive endocrinology, and the regulation of puberty onset. Also studied in metabolic contexts, since the reproductive axis is sensitive to energy availability.

Handling and storage

Lyophilised, reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate. Short peptides of this kind are typically studied at low concentrations, so accurate volumes matter.

Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. Nothing above describes a dose, a protocol, or a use in humans or animals, and none of these compounds is a licensed medicine in the UK.

Research Information

Kisspeptin-10 is the active 10-amino-acid C-terminal fragment of full-length kisspeptin, studied for its role in reproductive and metabolic research. Researchers are interested in how it interacts with the GPR54 (KISS1R) receptor in hypothalamic cell models — a key upstream regulator of the reproductive hormone axis. Most published work has used GnRH neuron and hypothalamic cell lines to examine kisspeptin signalling and downstream GnRH release pathways.

Research areas

  • GPR54 (KISS1R) receptor binding studies
  • Hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis cell-model research
  • GnRH release pathway studies
  • Reproductive neuroendocrine research

Analytical methods

Identity and purity are typically confirmed at source by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry.

Storage and handling

Store lyophilised at -20°C, away from moisture and direct light. Once reconstituted, store at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe specified on the source datasheet.

For Research Use Only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Batch tested

Every batch is tested for identity and purity, and we publish the certificate.
