About GHRP-6
What it is
GHRP-6 is a synthetic six-amino-acid growth hormone secretagogue, and one of the earliest of its class. It predates the discovery of ghrelin, which is the interesting historical detail: the peptide was found first, and the natural hormone that shares its receptor was identified afterwards, partly by working backwards from compounds like this one.
How it is understood to work
It acts at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor. Unlike Ipamorelin, which was engineered for selectivity, GHRP-6 produces marked appetite stimulation through the same ghrelin-receptor pathway, and also affects cortisol and prolactin to a greater degree. In research terms that makes it a blunter instrument, which is sometimes exactly what a study needs.
What research has looked at
Pituitary cell culture, receptor characterisation, and appetite and feeding-behaviour models in animals. Historically important in mapping the secretagogue receptor before ghrelin was known.
