About Epitalon
What it is
Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide — alanine, glutamate, aspartate, glycine — developed in Russia from work on pineal gland extracts. It is short even by peptide standards, which makes it straightforward to synthesise and unusually soluble.
How it is understood to work
Research interest centres on telomerase, the enzyme that extends the repeated DNA sequences capping chromosome ends. Cell-culture work has examined whether the peptide influences telomerase activity and, through that, the number of divisions a cell line undergoes before senescence. Work has also looked at its relationship with melatonin regulation, following from its pineal origins.
What research has looked at
The literature is dominated by a relatively small number of research groups, and much of the foundational work is Russian-language and older, which is worth knowing when assessing it. Independent replication is thinner than the volume of citation suggests. Supplied for in-vitro research only.
Handling and storage
Very soluble in bacteriostatic water and reconstitutes quickly. Being a short chain it is comparatively robust, but the same rules apply: cold, dark, and no repeated freeze-thaw.
Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. Nothing above describes a dose, a protocol, or a use in humans or animals, and none of these compounds is a licensed medicine in the UK.

Research Information
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) belonging to the family of peptide bioregulators developed by Russian researcher Vladimir Khavinson, studied for its role in cellular ageing research. Researchers are interested in how it interacts with telomerase — the enzyme that maintains chromosome ends and is linked to cellular replicative capacity — in cell-culture studies. Most published work has used fibroblast cell lines to examine its effects on telomere length and senescence markers.
Research areas
- Telomerase activity studies
- Telomere length cell-model research
- Cellular senescence pathway studies

Analytical methods
Identity and purity are typically confirmed at source by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry.
Storage and handling
Store lyophilised at -20°C, away from moisture and direct light. Once reconstituted, store at 2–8°C and use within the timeframe specified on the source datasheet.
For Research Use Only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Batch tested
Every batch is tested for identity and purity, and we publish the certificate.
