Bacteriostatic Water is USP-grade sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative, used in laboratory work as a multi-dose reconstitution solvent for lyophilised peptides. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be punctured multiple times over a research project.
