About AOD-9604
What it is
AOD-9604 is a short fragment of human growth hormone — residues 177 to 191 — with a tyrosine added at one end for stability. The logic behind it is a good example of fragment research: rather than use the whole 191-amino-acid hormone, isolate the region associated with one specific activity and leave the rest behind.
How it is understood to work
The C-terminal region of growth hormone had been associated with effects on fat metabolism in laboratory models, apparently separable from the hormone's effects on glucose handling and IGF-1 production. AOD-9604 was designed to test that separation. In adipocyte models it has been examined for effects on lipolysis and lipogenesis without the broader endocrine activity of the intact hormone.
What research has looked at
Adipocyte culture, animal models of adiposity, and work on the receptor question — notably whether it acts through the growth hormone receptor at all, which is not settled.
Handling and storage
Lyophilised. Reconstitute gently with bacteriostatic water, refrigerate, and use promptly. A short fragment is generally more robust than a full protein but still degrades in solution.
Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. Nothing above describes a dose, a protocol, or a use in humans or animals, and none of these compounds is a licensed medicine in the UK.

Research Information
AOD-9604 is a synthetic 16-amino-acid peptide representing a modified fragment of human growth hormone (hGH 176-191), studied for its role in lipid metabolism research. Researchers are interested in this fragment because it appears to retain the lipolytic (fat-mobilising) activity of native growth hormone without significantly affecting its growth-promoting pathways in cell-culture studies. Most published work has used adipocyte cell lines to examine hormone-sensitive lipase activation and downstream lipolysis.
