About Acetic Acid 1% Solution

What it is

A sterile 1% aqueous solution of acetic acid. This is a laboratory reagent rather than a research compound, supplied for one specific job: getting stubbornly hydrophobic peptides into solution.

How it is understood to work

Some peptide sequences will simply not dissolve in neutral water. Lowering the pH protonates basic residues and increases net charge, which improves solubility enough to get the peptide into solution, after which it is typically diluted into the working buffer. This is why it is described as a step-up solvent: it is the first stage, not the final one.

What research has looked at

Not applicable — this is a consumable. What matters is compatibility: acidic conditions can affect peptides that are sensitive to pH, so it is used where the sequence demands it rather than by default.

Handling and storage

Use the smallest volume that achieves dissolution, then dilute into the intended buffer. Not a substitute for bacteriostatic water in routine reconstitution. Store at room temperature.

Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only. Nothing above describes a dose, a protocol, or a use in humans or animals, and none of these compounds is a licensed medicine in the UK.

Research Information

Acetic Acid 1% Solution is a sterile aqueous acetic acid solution at a stronger concentration than the standard 0.6% lab grade. The more acidic environment is used as a backup reconstitution solvent for highly hydrophobic peptides that don't fully dissolve in neutral bacteriostatic water or 0.6% acetic acid — typically LL-37, Thymosin α-1, Thymalin, and other very hydrophobic compounds. Standard step-up solvent when the 0.6% concentration isn't enough.

Research areas

  • Reconstitution solvent for highly hydrophobic research peptides
  • Step-up solvent when 0.6% acetic acid is insufficient
  • Lab standard for LL-37, Thymosin α-1, Thymalin-class compounds

Analytical methods

Identity and purity are typically confirmed at source by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry.

Storage and handling

Store at room temperature, away from direct light. Once the vial is first punctured, use within 28 days; bacteriostatic preservative loses efficacy over time.

For Research Use Only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Batch tested

Every batch is tested for identity and purity, and we publish the certificate.
